Elia Mazzucchi – Jacopo Lisignoli in testa a pari punti con Mitch Boot – Ruben Boot dopo il primo giorno del Mondiale Wild Cat!
Terminate ieri tutte le regate del Campionato Mondiale Dragoon, dell’Europeo HC16 Youth e dell’Open HC 16 di qualificazione alla Gold Fleet dell’Europeo HC 16, oggi è iniziato il Mondiale Wild Cat e Tiger e il Campionato Europeo Hobie Cat 16 .
I Wild Cat oggi hanno disputato 4 prove con uno scarto e in testa alla classifica ci sono a pari punti il nostro equipaggio comasco Elia Mazzucchi – Jacopo Lisignoli e il pluricampione mondiale, gli spagnoli Mitch Booth – Ruben Booth, con la parità a favore di quest’ultimo per via della vittoria nell’ultima regata odierna. Gli equipaggi italiani in acqua in questa classe sono 7 su 29 concorrenti.
Nei Tiger sempre dopo 4 prove e uno scarto è in testa l’equipaggio sudafricano William Edwards – Douglas Edwards seguito dai tedeschi Arne Holweg – Ben Meyer e dai sudafricani Blaine Dodds (neocampione del mondo Hc 14!) – Peter-Blaine Dodds.
Gli Hobie Cat 16, dopo le varie prequalificazioni, sono stati divisi in due Flotte la Gold e la Silver che hanno entrambe disputato 4 prove con il primo scarto.
Nella Gold Fleet è in testa l’equipaggio danese Daniel Bjørnholt – Laila Froehlich seguito dall’equipaggio francese Cedric Bader – Laurent Bader (campioni Europei HC 16 in carica) e da quello olandese Rogier Duijndam – Sonja Steenvoorden. Il primo equipaggio italiano è quello formato dai cagliaritani Pierandrea Gessa – Roberto Dessy, al momento in nona posizione.
Nella Silver Fleet al momento è in testa alla classifica l’equipaggio tedesco Peter Gentsch – Doris Gauthierè seguito da quello francese Aurélien Bell – Max Billaux e a pari punti da quello americano Rich McVeigh – Carol McVeigh. Al sesto posto il primo equipaggio italiano formato da Beatrice Ruggeri – Lorenzo Rossi.
Domani seconda giornata del Camponato del Mondo dei Tiger e dei Wild Cat e del Campionato Europeo Hobie Cat 16.

Mitch & Ruben Booth IN Wild Cat and William & Douglas Edwards in Tiger lead the worlds
The race committee sent the Hobie Tiger and Wild Cats off the beach this morning for four races. In 6-11 knots of breeze the World Championships was off to a flying start.
In the Wild Cat Fleet the top two places are tied with Mitch and Ruben Booth ESP with a 1,3,2,1 scorecard and Elia Mazzucchi ITA who scored 3,1,1,2.
The Tigers have William and Douglas Edwards RSA have the lead with 5,3,2,1 scorecard. William said ‘it was much easier to just hit one of the corners and take your chances.’
Former Hobie 16 world champion Shaun Ferry, ‘we had two seconds and should have a third. We did one lap less and then had to unwind ourselves and then chase the fleet.’
The Hobie 16 Gold and Silver Fleet had a long day on the racecourse. Four races were sailed but there were some general recall and black flag starts. A black flag requires sailors to stay behind the starting line a minute before the start. If they cross the line then they will be disqualified.
Great Grand Master winner, Kerli Corlett said ‘the racing was very intense but the wind conditions of 6-11 knots was quite good.’
Racing was intense with mixed results mixed. Daniel Bjornholt DEN, former Hobie 16 Youth World Champion 28,1,4,4. After four races Daniel can drop his worst race a 28th to lead the championships. Cedric and Laurent Bader FRA sailed consistently with a 5,5,3,3 scorecard to be in second place, though their drop race is much better with only discarding a 5th place.
In the Silver fleet Peter Gentsch and Doris Gauthier GER have sailed consistently to score an impressive 1,1,10,2 scorecard to lead the field.
